What Is An Orthodontic Therapist?
A fairy new addition to the Orthodontic team; Orthodontic Therapists work alongside Orthodontists to carry out routine Orthodontic treatments. Becoming a Orthodontic Therapist is a popular career progression choice for dental nurses.
Orthodontic Therapists must undergo extensive practical training and assessments as well as pass a Diploma of Orthodontic Therapy exam. This is in addition to any previous training they have had to become a dental nurse.
Orthodontic Therapist are extremely knowledgeable in various areas of the dental industry and a great asset to any Orthodontic team.

Kirsty Rodger
Dip Orth Therapy RCSEd 2020 Certificate in Dental Radiography BDA 2019
Diploma in Orthodontic Nursing (NEBDN) Aberdeen Dental Education Centre 2011 GDC: 224105
Kirsty moved to London 5 years ago, from Scotland and qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in November 2020.
She has been actively involved within the dental industry since 2009, having worked as an Additional Duties Dental Nurse and Dental Nurse Tutor prior to qualifying as an Orthodontic Therapist.
Her strengths include; Welcoming patients to the practice and explaining the patient journey her at Orthodontic Gallery, as well as putting nervous patients at ease during their treatments.
Having had braces herself quite recently, she’s a great person to answer any questions or worries you may have.
Kirsty is a passionate, enthusiastic, and caring therapist, who likes to continuously learn and challenge herself. In 2015 she was overwhelmed to be nominated by her colleagues for the ‘Dental Care Professional Star Of The Year’ Award.
In her spare time, Kirsty enjoys going to the gym, running, and dining out. She ran the London Marathon, in 2019, for the international Children’s Cleft Lip and Palate charity, ‘Smile Train’ to raise money to provide free surgery to children in developing countries.
Georgiana Merfu

Georgiana qualified as an Orthodontic Therapist from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in June 2019 and has been actively involved in the dental industry since 2013.
Georgiana worked in Guys Hospital as a dental nurse for over 4 years before embarking into the Orthodontic Therapy course. She did her practical training at Guys, where she currently works, treating children and teenagers. Now, she divides her time between private Orthodontic practices as well as two hospitals.
She also works at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital treating mainly, complex Orthodontic cases involving; Jaw surgery, cleft lip & palate and missing teeth in children, teenagers and adults.
Her work, dedication and care have been highly recognised and awarded during her career. In 2016 she received an award from the head of dental nursing at Guys Hospital, for dedication and excellence. She was also awarded with distinction by the Kings Health Partners, on completion of her Orthodontic Therapy training course, in 2019.
In 2016 Georgiana had the opportunity to develop further care and compassion by doing dental charity work for children in Cambodia.
She is an enthusiastic, honest and hard-working individual, who likes to continuously learn and challenge herself. In her career her motto is “Treat your patients as you would want your family of yourself to be treated.”
